    This is the list I started from seed.  Below that is the list of plants I bought or was given.

    This is what I think.

    • Achillea – The Pearl Superior. Hardy, Easy.
    • Agastache – Hyssop – Lavender. Hardy, Easy. (self seed to a limited degree)
    • Alaska Daisy – Semi hardy, easy.
    • Alyssum – Basket of Gold. Hardy. Easy. Gets woody after several years – needs to be split. (self seeds to a limited degree)
    • Angelica – Hardy, self seeds invasively (biennial).
    • Arabis – Rockcress.
    • Aquilegia – Columbine – Mckana Giants and others via seed share. Takes several years to reach mature size. Inch worm type caterpillar is problematic.
    • Aquilegia – Columbine – Pink Tower. Hardy. Matures more quickly. (self seeds readily)

    • Campanula – Blue Chips (long lived and replaces itself by self seed to a limited degree)
    • Campanula – White (limited success, short lived, but will retry)
    • Campanula – Canterbury Bells (long lived and self seed to a limited degree)
    • Campanula – Bell Flower – Hardy, self seeds
    • Cerastium – Snow In Summer. Easy. (spread via root).
    • Chrysanthemum – Shasta. Easy (self seeds easily)
    • Chrysanthemum – Alaska Daisy (short lived, but replaces itself by self seed if mulched over winter)
    • Chrysanthemum – Painted Daisy (self seeds, mulch young plants over winter)
    • Delphinium – Blue Mirror.  Easy once established. (self seeds)
    • Delphinium – Magic Fountains.  Easy. (self seeds).
    • Dianthus – Confetti Red. (mulch over winter for self seeding)
      Dianthus – Cheddar Pink (short lived, but starting more 2010)
    • Gypsophilia – Baby’s Breath – Snowflake. Easy once established.
    • Gaillardia – Blanket Flower (mostly a self seeding annual)
    • Hollyhocks Single: red, pink, fushia, white (needs an established seed base to be bi-annual)
    • Iberis – Candy Tuff (annual here)
    • Lamb’s Ears – Semi Hardy if mulched.  Self seed.
    • Liatris – Blazing Star. Easy once established (split root after several years)
    • Linum – Blue Flax. Easy (self seeds easily)
    • Lychnis – Maltese Cross. Easy (self seeds easily)
    • Lupins – Russsel.  Easy once established (self seeds invasively)
    • Penstemon – Short lived (but replaces itself by self seeds to a limited degree – nuture seedlings)
    • Phlox (mossy type) – (limited success, but still trying)
    • Rudbeckia – Gloriosa & Cherokee Sunset (treat as an annual – self seeds to a limited degree)
    • Rudbeckia – Black Eyed Susan (treat as an annual – self seeds to a limited degree)
    • Sea Holly – Hardy, invasive, dead head to prevent seeding.
    • Salvia – Blue Queen (short lived, but self seed to a limited degree, loses color in successive generations)
    • Sedum – Dragons Blood (limited success, short lived – worth retrying)
    • Sedum – Stonecrop. Easy if mulched over winter
    • Sedum – Hens and Chicks. Easy
    • Sidalcea – Prairie Mallow – Party Girl (hardy and self seeds)
    • Soponaria – Soapwort. Reliable (some plants survive over winter, but self seeds)
    • Statice – German. Hardy (self seeds to a limited degree)
    • Statice – Sea Lavender. Hardy, long lived if mulched over winter in windy areas (self seeds to a limited degree)
    • Tansy – Hardy, invasive – must dead head to prevent seeding.
    • Thymus – Mother of Thyme. Hardy (spreads from seed)
    • Veronica – Speedwell. Hardy.
    • Viola – Johnny Jump Ups ( short lived, spreads from seed)

    This is the list of plants I bought or was given*.  Again, the comments are what I think.

    • *Alchemilla – Ladies Mantle – (non hardy, needs mulching)
    • *Artimisea Sage – Wormwood, Hardy, invasive.
    • *Artimisea Sage – Silver Mound – Hardy but need to split after a few years or it will die out.
    • *Arabis – Alpina. Hardy. Easy. (spreads via root).
    • *Artimisea – Silver King – Hardy if mulched.
    • *Anemone – Hardy.  Spreads aggressively once established.
    • *Asparagus – Semi hardy, but come back from root if established.
    • *Aster – Prairie – Hardy Mum (crowns)
    • *Bergenia – Elephant Ears. Semi hardy.
    • *Campanula – Clustered Bellflower .  Hardy.  Easy
    • *Corydalis – Bleeding Heart.  Hardy but not drought tolerant.  White variety didn’t come back second year.
    • *Clematus – Purple, and Radar Love Yellow. Easy
    • *Monkshood. Hardy, and a favorite.
    • *Dianthus – Rubies (short lived, but want more)
    • *Euphorbia polychroma – Spurge. Hardy
    • *Globe Flower – (failed, but retrying.  It grows for Annie, doesn’t self seed)
    • *Gypsophilia – Pink (limited success, but worth retrying).
    • *Hemerocallis – Day Lilly, and Stella
    • *Hops. Hardy. Takes several years to establish.
    • *Iris. Hardy
    • *Lilum – Lilies – variety. Easy (deer and rabbits love them though
    • *Michaelmas Daisy. Hardy. Easy
    • *Nepeta – Dropmore Catmint. Hardy. (self seeds to a limited degree)
    • *Platycodon – Balloon Flower.  Hardy. (doesn’t seem to self seed)
    • *Perovskia – Russian Sage. Hardy, but takes several years to get established.
    • *Paeonia – Peony – Medium Pink, Pale pink, White. Hardy
    • *Polygonatum multiflorum – Solomon’s Seal. Hardy (but deer love it)
    • *Physostegia – Obedient Plant. Easy if mulched over winter (self seeds)
    • *Rue – Meadow. Hardy, but small.
    • *Sedum – Autumn Joy, takes several years to get established.

    Bulbs:

    • Scilla – hardy
    • Crocus (limited success)
    • Daffodil
    • Narcissus
    • Lilies
    • Tulips

    Tried and Abandoned:

    • Armeria – Sea Thrift (short lived and unreliable, but does self seed to a limited degree)
    • * Astilbe – (purchased root), late to come up, small, has yet to have significant bloom.
    • Aubrieta – Rockcress (failed 2nd or 3rd year)
    • Bellis – English Daisy – Tasso Mix (failed 2nd year)
    • *Campanula – Dwarf Pink (failed 2nd year)
    • Carnation – (failed 2nd or 3rd year, will retry as annual)
    • *Chrysanthemum – Cushion Moms – failed.
    • Cinnifoils
    • Coreopsis – Early Sunrise (failed 2nd year)
    • *Coreopsis – Tick Seed (limited success, still trying)
    • Cupid Darts – Failed, non hardy
    • Doronicum – Magnificum (failed 2nd or 3rd year)
    • Foxglove – Digitalis (failed 2nd year)
    • Geum – Mrs Bradshaw (short lived)
    • Helenium – Red-Gold (failed 2nd year, needs fall seeding so gets forgotten about)
    • *Helenium Autumnale – Sneezeweed (failed 2nd year, but retrying)
    • *Heuchera – Cora Bells (failed 2nd or 3rd year)
    • Lavender – (success only in greenhouse for a few years)
    • Lunaria Biennis – Silver Dollar (failed 2nd year)
    • *Oxtailis – Eliminated, invasive
    • Pansy – Short lived, fail, non hardy
    • *Pearly Everlasting – Failed, non hardy
    • Physalis – Chinese Lantern. (failed 2nd year)
    • Rock Rose – Failed, non hardy
    • Echinachea –  Purple coneflower (failed 2nd or 3rd year)
    • Scabiosa – (failed 2nd year – abandoned as a perennial)
    • Teasle – Failed, non hardy.
    • Tritoma – Flamenco (failed 2nd year. Zero frost tolerance)
    • Viola – blue, sunbeam, and others.  Fail after a 1-2 years.
